The most common errors in the fabrication of roller shutters
The experience and knowledge in designing roller shutter systems and ongoing support to the fabricators in the production process helped us to develop a list of most frequently committed errors during their fabrication.
NOT ARRETING THE CURTAIN – a frequent and unacceptable error during the fabrication of the curtain is the omission of the profile arreting phase. The arreting process consists of assembling the roller’s curtain using profile plugs, which are to prevent movement of the curtain profiles towards each other. With no profile plugs mounted in the roller’s curtain, the roller can get blocked against the side cover of the roller box, which may eventually cause damage to the roller.
ARRETING IMPROPERLY PERFORMED – a very significant step in the production of roller shutters is the proper execution of arreting (mounting profile plugs) of the curtain. Please follow manufacturing documents, which clearly define the type of plug for a given profile and the arreting method. Improper arreting may lead to an increase in roller shutter curtain’s profile section, which increases the diameter of the roller, and may consequently result in the curtain not fitting in the shutter-box.
IMPROPER CUTTING – a basic negligence during the fabrication is the improper cutting of the profiles. For cutting aluminium and plastic profiles, use a panel circular saw for aluminium (2,800 rev. / min.). Cutting should be done accurately and without haste; once cut, the profiles should have equal and unfrayed edge, particular attention should be paid when cutting profiles at their perforation.
USING PERFORATED PROFILES ALL ALONG THE CURTAIN – if the curtain is made of perforated profile, it is recommended to use the first 6 profiles non-perforated at the top of the curtain. If the recommendation is not followed, there can be a phenomenon of daylight (sunlight) "clearance" through the upper curtain profiles. This is due to too little profiles’ own weight and to the use of the manual drive.
IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF THE INCREASING RINGS – When using electric drive, special attention should be paid pay while attaching (with screws) the rings that increase the diameter of the tube. Screws cannot come into contact with the actuator, as this may damage the actuator. To be sure, the increasing rings or hanger rings can be glued.
WRONG SIZE OF THE COILING TUBE – Coiling tubes should be cut to the dimension specified in the technical documentation. This dimension depends on the drive, protectors, and on elements used for fixing the pipe (holder). Non-observance of the coiling tube dimensions contained in the technical documentation can cause damage to the holders if the tube is too short or result in inability to pull out the roller tube if it is too long.
